  • Those Days At Robigana - History

200 years ago Matthew Flinders wrote in his log book "In running from Egg Island to the opposite point, we observed a flock of swans at the back of the shoal which lays off it, and as their numbers far exceeded any we before met with, I called this sandy low projection Swan Point".

For many years Swan Point was the name given to an extensive area encompassing Paper Beach and Robigana. The latter is aptly named because it is an aboriginal word which means swan. This change came about in 1913 when a post office was established for the area. To avoid confusion with Swan Bay opposite the name Robigana was decided upon.
